What are the uses of sulfamic acid

Sulfamic acid is an inorganic solid acid formed by replacing the hydroxyl group of sulfuric acid with amino groups. It is a white flaky crystal of orthorhombic system, tasteless, odorless, non-volatile, non-hygroscopic, and easily soluble in water and liquid ammonia. Slightly soluble in methanol, insoluble in ethanol and ether. It has a wide range of uses and can be used as cleaning agent, descaling agent, color fixer, sweetener, aspartame, etc., and can play different roles in different industries.

1. Sulfamate Acid is widely used in acid cleaning agents, such as boiler descaling, cleaning agents for metal and ceramic equipment; descaling agents for heat exchangers, coolers and engine water cooling systems; cleaning agents for food industry equipment, etc. The specific description is as follows:

For descaling equipment, a 10% solution can be used. Sulfamic acid is safe on steel, iron, glass and wood equipment and can be used with caution on copper, aluminum and galvanized metal surfaces. Clean in soak tank or by cycle. For surfaces, use a cloth or brush to apply to the surface and let it sit for a few minutes. Stir with a brush if necessary and rinse thoroughly with clean water.

For boiler systems and cooling towers, use a recirculation treatment of 10% to 15% solution, depending on the severity of the system. Flush the system before applying and refill with clean water. Determine the volume of water and mix the sulfamic acid at a ratio of 100 grams to 150 grams per liter of water. Circulate solution at room temperature or heat up to 60°C for heavier cleaning. Note: Do not use at boiling point, or the product will hydrolyze and not work. Rinse and inspect system after thorough cleaning. For heavily soiled systems, repeated applications may be necessary. Periodic flushing of the system is required after cleaning to remove loose scale and contaminants. Use 10%-20% solution to remove rust.

2. It can be used as a bleaching aid in the paper industry, which can reduce or eliminate the catalytic effect of heavy metal ions in the bleaching liquid, thereby ensuring the quality of the bleaching liquid, reducing the oxidative degradation of the metal ions on the fiber, and preventing the peeling of the fiber Reaction, improve pulp strength and whiteness.

3. Amidosulfonic Acid is used in the manufacture of dyes, pigments and leather dyeing. In the dye industry, it can be used as an elimination agent for excess nitrite in diazotization reaction and a color fixer for textile dyeing.

4. Used in the textile industry to form a fireproof layer on textiles; it can also be used to make yarn cleaners and other auxiliary agents in the textile industry.

5. Remove excess grout on tile, weathering and other mineral deposits. For removing excess grout on tiles or dissolving efflorescence on walls, floors, etc.: Prepare a sulfamic acid solution by dissolving 80-100 grams per liter of warm water. Apply to the surface using a cloth or brush and allow to work for a few minutes. Stir with a brush and rinse with clean water if necessary. PLEASE NOTE: If using around colored grout, use a weaker solution of about 2% (20g per liter of water) to reduce the risk of leaching any color from the grout.

6. Sulfonating agent for daily products and industrial surfactants. Domestic industrial production of fatty acid polyoxyethylene ether sodium sulfate (AES) uses SO3, oleum, chlorosulfonic acid, etc. as sulfonating agents. Using these sulfonating agents not only causes serious equipment corrosion, complicated production equipment, and large investment, but also The product is dark in color. Using sulfamic acid as a catalyst to produce AES has the characteristics of simple equipment, low corrosion, mild reaction and easy control.

7. Sulfamic acid is commonly used in gold plating or alloy plating, and the plating solution for gold, silver, and gold-silver alloys contains 60-170 g of sulfamic acid per liter of water. A typical electroplating solution for silver-plated women’s clothing needles contains 125 g of sulfamic acid per liter of water, which can obtain a very bright silver-plated surface. Alkali metal sulfamate, ammonium sulfamate or sulfamic acid can be used as conductive, buffering compound in the new aqueous gold plating bath.

8. Used for chlorine stabilization in swimming pools and cooling towers.

9. In the petroleum industry, it can be used to unblock the oil layer and increase the permeability of the oil layer.

10. Sulfamic acid can be used to synthesize herbicides.

11. Urea-formaldehyde resin coagulant.

12. Synthetic sweeteners (aspartame). Aminosulfonic acid reacts with amino hexane to produce hexyl sulfamic acid and its salts.

13. React with nitric acid to synthesize nitrous oxide.

14. Curing agent for furan mortar.
